Description: Great quality mahogany late Victorian bedroom suite consisting of a full size bed and low and tall chest. Each piece has a fabulous heavily carved North Wind head crest. The head and foot boards have a deeply recessed shaped figured mahogany panel surrounded by a heavy very deep molding. The general shape of this panel is echoed in the shape of the beveled mirror in the low chest and the hatbox of the tall chest. Other motifs that resonate with each of the three pieces are horizontal ovals and vertical layered notches with carvings above. The two chests have deep raised beveled panel sides, heavy cast brass hardware, and figured mahogany drawer fronts. The low chest has a very thick original reddish/brown/white colored marble top. There are three drawers below the top. The center one has the original felt liner (see photos). The bed has fancy carved returns on both ends of the siderails. One of the siderails has had some repair to the inner support structure. The tall chest is the exceptional piece! It has five beveled glass mirrors below the wind blower crest. There are returns on each side of the gallery. The hatbox in the middle of the gents chest has a horizontal carved log motif with a delicate carving on the surface. Two small drawers flank each side of this hatbox. The interior of ALL the drawers AND the hatbox compartment are made out of stunning birds eye maple (see photo).
