Description: Rare form Victorian faux bamboo birdseye maple vanity and chair. The mirror has a spindled top with an unusual lattice work middle and four round finials. It has an original beveled mirror. The sides of the mirror are extensively decorated and feature a quarter round shelf. The base has a long drawer and two smaller ones underneath with original bar pulls. The drawers, mirror and panels are all bordered by a quarter round faux bamboo turning. The chair has an upholstered seat (old fabric). There is a slight stain on the right side of the top surface. This style was inspired by the Japanese style and was popularized by R.J. Horner & Company, NYC. This piece is unsigned but we attribute it to that famous firm. A very similar vanity is shown on page 140 of "Masterpieces of American Furniture from the Munson-Williams-Proctor Institute." This is a fabulous example of this furniture genre!
