Description: Gorgeous Rococo rosewood Victorian dressing table or vanity
made by Alexander Roux, NYC. The original oval mirror has a open carved
floral crest and side supports. It is attached to the original white marble
that has an ornately shaped edge and recessed interior - a most attractive
and unusual feature. The marble sets into the top of the vanity base.
There are carved corners on the top of the base. A shaped front drawer with
a lovely satinwood divided interior is in the middle. The front of the
drawer and sides of the skirt are carved. The four graceful cabriole legs
have carving and are supported by open carved cross stretchers. A large
carved finial decorates the middle of the base. It appears to have the
original castors.
We are offering a matching rosewood table signed by Roux for sale to the buyer of this dressing table. It can be seen at this link: Roux Table.
When comparing the various elements on the vanity and table we can declare
with certainty that Roux was the maker of this piece. Important NYC made
case pieces from this period are difficult to find. This is one of the best
vanities we have ever seen offered for sale!
