Description: Exceptional Renaissance Revival walnut Victorian ladies
secretary. It has a double step carved gallery with fancy spindle supports.
There is a cupboard in the top and bottom, each with two doors with inset
burled panels and fancy carved key escutcheons. The desk interior has
ornate open carved cutouts, two burled front drawers, and an old leather
writing surface. The desk is revealed by a roll front with inset burled
panel. There is a drawer beneath the writing surface with raised burled
front and a number of dividers in the interior (some staining). Lovely open
carved supports are on each side of the base. The sides have inset panels.
This was probably made by Thomas Brooks, NYC but we couldn't find a label.
It is a very elegant desk, exhibiting superior craftsmanship and design!
