Description: Massive Rococo Rosewood Victorian Cassone. We purchased this
piece back in 1988 from the "Orchards" which was the summer home of the
Joseph Skinner family in South Hadley, Mass. Joseph Skinner made his
fortune selling silk and was one of this area's most prominent residents.
At the foot of our king size bed for the last 23 years, it was such a useful
blanket chest. The top has a beautifully carved edge and two lift up lids.
The gorgeous bombe shaped base is handsomely decorated with floral and rose
carvings. Each of the five feet are also intricately carved. This piece
shows all the quality of the finest of the New York City makers of the
period. It is an exceptional and unique piece of Victorian furniture!
