Description: Great unusual style Victorian oak platform rocker made by George Hunzinger. Hunzinger patented the unusual spring rocking mechanism. A full explanation of this patent can be seen on page 133-135 of "Innovative Furniture in America" by David Hanks. Other examples of such rockers are shown on pages 116-117 of "Styles of American Furniture" by Eileen and Richard Dubrow. This piece has large carved top finials and rope turned sides and arm supports. An "S" is under each arm. It has the original brass castors in the front. The fabric was put on by a previous owner. We have had a number of different style Hunzinger rockers over the years - he was very innovative and creative. This is the only one we have ever seen with "wings" on either side of the pillow rest on top. The upholstery was put on some years ago by a previous owner.
