The bear is seated on its haunches with paws on its feet. The colt is standing with its head turned. All pieces are signed "S Kirk & Son, Sterling" and all but the bear show the number "2" with a circle around it. The Kirk Sterling Company signed its pieces as "S Kirk & Son Sterling" from 1868 to 1896. After 1896 it was "S Kirk & Son Co."
