Description: Outstanding Large Victorian Walnut Armchair with an open pierced
carved and scrolled crest that encases a silver plaque. The plaque says "Presented to
Mr. Benjamin F. Campbell by the Employees of Campbell Whittier & Co, December 1860."
Campbell & Whittier Co. of Cambridge MA built the first locomotive for Mt. Washington
Cog Railway in 1866. The chair is a beautiful form with indented curled arms, seriated
small balls underneath the arms that are surrounded by deep ornate carvings, and a very graceful foot with scrolling. Notice the depth of the carving and ornate serpentine construction
of the accentuated apron. This chair makes an impressive profile and also has some
