Description: Matched pair of Renaissance Revival Victorian walnut
armchairs. They feature exceptional open carved crests with a flower in the
middle, a wreath underneath, and finials on each side. The crest is
supported on each side by a carved bust - a very unusual design feature.
The frames have bamboo turned posts on each side and are decorated with
shaped burled panels and applied carved buttons. They have carved round
front legs ending in original brass castors. The fabric is old with some
staining. These chairs have attributes of several cabinet makers of the
period. The busts resemble those frequently found on chairs by John Jeliff
of Newark, NJ. The turned posts on the side are a design feature employed
extensively by George Hunzinger, NYC. A high style pair of Victorian
chairs
